Significance of attending Mount Annan Botancial Gardens

I chose the Mount Annan Botanic Gardens because it provides a rich, hands-on environment for students to be able to explore how people  care for the natural environment. The gardens are a significant community resource for promoting geography learning, as they allow students to study features of places, environments, and human impact on them. The incorporation of Indigenous knowledge also enables teachers to embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives. My photos from the visit capture many geographical features, demonstrating how environments are managed and cared for, as well as how Indigenous teachings are shared throughout the gardens. The collage above is photos I took on my visit to the community resource - Mount Annan Botancial Gardens (Connections Garden and Fruit Loop Garden)

The images below show how this excursion extends students’ learning in the Geography strand while also connecting to cross-curriculum priorities. Plaques  are placed near plant and tree species which provide opportunities for students to engage with Indigenous knowledge and cultural perspectives. (36 words)
